The4LetterNerd Vinyl just arrived, and it was worth the wait. Lots of 70s swagger, killer riffs, and totally unafraid to get weird and boogie. Fucking love it; can't wait to see what's next. Authenticity & The Illusion of Enough, Slow Death of Life, and Alchemy of Identity are my standouts.

FFO: Graveyard, Clutch, Iron Maiden Favorite track: Alchemy of Identity.
Metallurgical Fire
Metallurgical Fire thumbnail
Metallurgical Fire It gives a feeling like the first time you heard Sabbath or The Black Crowes, just great heavy rock n’ roll right here. It could have been released in the last quarter of the 20th century and been a classic, but I’m glad we get to hear it right now. Favorite track: Alchemy of Identity.

Gathered here we are Communal worshiping of song Divinity in each of us We carry gods along They're never far from us Cause they reside in us And now we gather here for prayer Reverence pointed inward Fueled by the music we heard And now we're gathered here for prayer One and one and eye to eye We hold our heads up high Delivering our highest selves Our voices reach the sky The music belongs to us! Sometimes our only trust And now we're gathered here for prayer

You think the world owes you a fast way up Sidestepping all your obligations Spend all your time looking for one big score While it eludes you you learn nothing What do you want? What do you need? Watch from the Shadow as you spin your web When they get close you feel protected Can't handle someone knowing who you are Cause then you might just get rejected
3.
Letting go Well it takes time Every day We flow along those lines The forms the Formless occupy Is it by choice or “fate”? Are they just here to balance out A karmic bank account? A message in a bottle That vessel Earthly life Delivered where the flow allows Unknown where it arrives Where does it go? That energy... Hollowed husks is all that it will leave The insult to the ego Our precious, lonely lives Create the squalid suffering Persisting when we die Within these roles we’ve come to find That value will take time And it’s on us to cultivate With our intents aligned
4.
I can feel you breathe Soft heaving under me I'm on you, in you, of you Now we are One Wrap wisdom 'round my tongue I taste it, need it, want it Are we entwined forever? No. It makes this time together so… I fear that we’re through There’s no need more than I need you I won’t ask for more than that Like a lover spurned Your back to us is turned I won’t say we don’t deserve...
5.
Hey Mr. Preacher Man Let me tell you what looks wrong You've got your flock here 1600 strong They pay the money They pay the tithe They can't afford it But they're paying or your life And it's chill... Chill for a church Hey Mr Preacher Man Where you live is somewhere else You feel no shame, nah ‘Bout where you get your wealth Four-car garage, yeah Nice neighborhood Wish your parishioners Could afford to live this good

The Brink 05:11
Don't wanna give up I wanna keep on, I don't want to die Don't wanna give up I wanna keep on, and I have to try All the years of self-destruction Finally taken their toll... And now The Piper His hand extended has laid a claim on my soul Too many nights of summoned numbness And of running away My body gave out, my mind exhausted Left me counting the days All the times I tried to walk away Couldn't take the first step Never enough and Always wanting Are the strands of this web Too many nights of summoned numbness And of running away I finally took it: a frantic stumble I finally found my own way

Been driving for hours Or so it felt that afternoon Missed a left at the ranch back there And the sun is going down soon When we turned round the corner He came upon us way too fast By the time he had gone by I forgot he even went past Where did that truck go? I swear I saw it there Where did that truck go? I swear I saw it over there... Specters in Ford Rangers Silent gaze at the end of a gun It was so fucking cold down there And it wasn't for the lack of sun Told me as they watched us Couldn't shake the feeling of dread And as we left that place, that day We were silent as among the dead
8.
With these apparitions haunting my head And clouding the vision of what I intend The process: accepting a version of self Seems so out of reach, constructing a Hell All of my own. In all of this journey I've focused ahead Missing the present as if I were dead A catalyst to being here now, to be sure Is to be here now, really nothing more And so it goes... Travels When progress is metered out by days It’s easy to feel as if you’ve lost the Way When crawling doesn’t satisfy you anymore Ya gotta stand up to make it through those doors All on your own

"Fans of Danava, Kadavar, Green Lung, and The Sword should cozy up to this one right quick, and for good reason. 4 is a stoner-doom gem for the post-pandemic age that finds reason to search amidst uncertainty and keep on living beyond self-doubt."
